Renmark was founded along the banks of the River Murray and in 1889 was the first irrigation district to be established in Australia by the Canadian Chaffey brothers, George and William. Renmark is part of the Riverland, which is a large Australian wine region. The Riverland has a continental climate with temperature average from 16 degrees C in winter to 30 Degrees C in summer. The growing season is long and dry with minimal disease pressure. The land is flat with red-brown sandy loam soil.

The Riverland is considered the engine room of the Australian wine industry as it is a leader in environmental practises, innovation of vineyards and wineries and is also the home of Australia's most popular brands.
